Humble Beginnings
Our Founder
Our founder Athreya Shetty, developed a keen interest in growing food crops since his childhood days. What began slowly, as an affinity to grow fresh nutritious food in the kitchen garden, turned into a passion for Agriculture and Horticulture.
Driven by a keen desire to change Indian farming practices and integrate sustainable modern farming methods, Athreya pursued his education abroad, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural & Crop Science from University of Nottingham, UK in 2023. He further pursued post graduation at Nottingham under a fully funded Master’s Research program, the first at the University for an international student!
Athreya worked in close collaboration with industry leaders and the British Beet Research Organisation, investigating the efficacy of Endophytic grasses as a natural alternative to control aphids in Sugar Beet. This led him to publish a thesis and earn an MRes degree in Plant and Crop Sciences in 2025.
He then chose to come back home to Bharat and decided to set up his own venture – Athreya Organic Farms, to pursue his passion. Athreya has always been strictly against chemical fertilisers and pesticides with all the environmental harm they cause, and so it was no question when he decided to scale up his passion into a business venture, it would be 100% Organic!
An expert in Meteorology
Weather and Farming are two sides of the same coin, and if you can’t be prepared for upcoming weather events, then the risk of loosing your crop becomes manifold. Stories about Climate Change wreaking havoc across Indian farms in recent years are a norm these days, and with weather patterns becoming more erratic, farmers are in need of accurate up to date weather warnings, issued well in advance of potential severe weather events, in order to minimise losses.
Luckily, we’ve got that covered! Athreya began delving deep into the world of weather and meteorology during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the years, he self taught himself on the nuances of Indian climatic conditions, including the South West Monsoon – the lifeline of our Agrarian economy.
Athreya has over 5 years of experience forecasting weather for Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and North Indian Ocean Cyclones. He regularly disseminates weather forecasts on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) through his handle @shetty_athreya. A major breakthrough came in June 2023, when Athreya was the first & only one to accurately forecast the track of Extremely Severe Cyclone Biparjoy in the Arabian Sea. He forecasted its formation two weeks in advance and consistently warned about its landfall in Naliya, Gujarat a week prior to landfall; while all other forecasts (including by the national agency) struggled to accurately predict its movement. This brought him to the forefront of independent weather forecasts in India and he now boasts a rapidly growing following on 𝕏. Athreya has since expanded his scope to issue Agromet advisories to fellow farmers, especially during severe weather events. He’s been fortunate to earn the gratitude of several farmers who are able to harvest their crops beforehand and take mitigation measures to minimise losses.
With a 90% accuracy in forecasting weather, Athreya is regularly featured as a weather expert in national and local media such as Times of India, News 18 Gujarati, Lokmat, Pudhari and NDTV among others. His ability to swim against the tide and issue accurate forecasts weeks/months in advance, is what gives him an edge in this field.
